Bananas

Bananas are the leading internationally traded fresh fruit in terms of volume and dollar sales and the best-selling fresh fruit in the United States. Fresh Del Monte is the world’s third largest marketer of bananas with an estimated 14% market share in 2008. We produce bananas on company-controlled farms in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Brazil, Cameroon and the Philippines. We also purchase bananas from independent growers in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala and the Philippines.

Bananas have a relatively short growing cycle and are grown in tropical locations with humid climates and heavy rainfall, such as Central and South America, the Caribbean, the Philippines and Africa. The consistent temperature and growing conditions in these locations allow bananas to be grown year-round .

Characterized by their bright yellow color and sweet taste, bananas are the ideal fruit for snacks and sports activities. They contain all eight amino acids which cannot be produced by our bodies and are an excellent source of fiber, potassium and vitamin C.  Available year-round,
