Avocado

Fresh Del Monte is one of the largest importers of Hass avocados sourcing from Mexico, Chile and California with year-round supply. Hass avocados are the leading variety with over 95 percent of volume and range in size from 36 to 84 count. They have a distinctive pebbly skin that turns from green to purplish-black when ripe; however color is not always the best indicator of ripeness. Contrary to their rough and blackish exterior, the pulp is pale green with a creamy texture and excellent taste.

Avocados provide nearly 20 essential vitamins and minerals: potassium, folic acid and other B-vitamins, as well as vitamins E and K. They also contain phytonutrients, believed to help prevent many chronic diseases. The pulp is full of poly-unsaturated oils which some recent studies have shown reduce cholesterol levels resulting in better heart health. Del Monte® avocados can be enjoyed year round in salads, soups, as a side dish, on a sandwich and of course guacamole. Some cultures prepare avocados in ice cream or in a milk shake.
